Delegates had the opportunity to kick-start their days during SportAccord Convention by carrying out morning runs in the company of famous faces from the world of athletics, thanks to the support of the IAAF.

American heptathlon and long jump legend, Jackie Joyner-Kersee, and Italian high jumper, Alessia Trost, were on hand to guide delegates on a five-kilometre run every morning alongside the sparkling Mediterranean.

Joyner-Kersee is a three-time Olympic gold medal-winner and a four-time gold medal-winner at the World Championships, while Trost is considered to be one of athletics’ future stars, having claimed gold medals at the 2009 World Youth Championships, 2012 World Junior Championships and 2013 European U-23 Championships.

Joyner-Kersee also participated in a Q&A session at the Convention alongside IAAF President, Lamine Diack, who announced plans for ‘Athletics for a Better World’ – a new social responsibility programme that will use the universality of the sport to make a positive difference in the world.

The IAAF will work closely with organisations such as Peace & Sport, the United Nations and the IOC to develop the programme alongside 12 ‘athlete patrons’, including Joyner-Kersee.

The free morning exercise sessions also included an IFMA Morning Muaythai Boxercise Class led by former world champion and TV personality, Stephan Fox, on Wednesday.

On Thursday, delegates were able to make a splash when Olympic swimmer, Katinka Hosszu, hosted a morning swim at Susesi Luxury Resort’s 25-metre indoor pool, with the support of FINA, the global governing body of aquatic sports.
