The ever popular Sports Demo Zone gave Convention delegates an opportunity to check out various
sports close up, from Tuesday to Thursday.
Sports featured in the zone included Swimming, Basketball, Draughts, Judo, Karate, Muaythai,
Sambo, Surfing, Taekwondo and Volleyball.
Two of the highlights of the Sports Demo Zone occurred on Wednesday,
when the International Surfing Association showcased Stand-Up Paddle,
demonstrated by Denmark’s 2013 World Stand-Up Paddle Champion,
Casper Steinfath. ISA President Fernando Aguerre was also present.
Also on Wednesday morning, a huge crowd gathered for a Beach Volleyball
demonstration hosted by the FIVB, the sport’s global governing body.
On Thursday morning, FINA Swimming World
Champion Katinka Hosszu was the star of the
show as she guided delegates through an
early morning swim, which culminated in a
memorable relay competition.
On every morning of SportAccord Convention
week, the IAAF led the morning run, with
American heptathlon and long jump legend,
Jackie Joyner-Kersee, and Italian high jumper,
Alessia Trost, guiding delegates on a route
alongside the sparkling Mediterranean.
As is traditional now at the Convention, delegates
were also put through their paces on Wednesday
morning by the IFMA, the global governing body of
Muaythai, and former world champion and TV
personality, Stephan Fox.
