– Announcements

  • 01. Esther Vergeer, the former Dutch wheelchair tennis player whose record-breaking achievements range across four Paralympic Games, was awarded the prestigious individual trophy at the SportAccord Spirit of Sport Awards. She remains heavily involved in promoting the sport through clinics and her foundation. The project category was won by the International Federation of Muaythai Amateur for ‘Sport is Your Gang’, an initiative that brings structure to the lives of disadvantaged and marginalised youth.
  • 02. SportAccord announced the launch of its Global Unified Athletes Research Database (GUARD) during the Doping-Free Sport Unit (DFSU) session addressing the ‘Challenges of Education’. This worldwide web-based platform aims at minimising the risks of inadvertent doping by offering all athletes, regardless of their country or sport, a research tool on whether or not a medication that is legally marketed contains a prohibited substance on the World Anti-Doping Agency list.
  • 03. Clare Briegal has been appointed Chief Executive Officer of the International Federation of Netball Associations (IFNA).
  • 04. SportAccord has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the International School Sports Federation.
